Instructions
Take 1 tablespoon of cream of tartar, 4 tablespoons of spices or herbs selected for desired color, 4 cups of water, and bring to a boil. Add 4 – 6 eggs and reduce to a simmer. Cook for 15 minutes, remove the pot from heat, and cover. Let the eggs sit for 15 – 30 minutes depending on desired color. The longer you leave the eggs in the mixture the deeper the color result.
Repeat steps with a different spice for each color desired.
If you are looking for a natural way to add decoration to your Easter egg, I suggest wrapping layers of yellow onion skins around your egg. After wrapping the onion skins, tightly wrap the egg in a cheesecloth, then place the wrapped egg in the boiling water mixture. This will create a really unique, marbleized look to your egg.
